Spinal Decompression Therapy and the Spynamics Sacro-aligner
At Spynamics, we promote a proactive approach to back care. We believe that decay and breakdown of the spine often occurs in a predictable graduated sequence, and that early preventative measures can work wonders in minimising the rate of spinal breakdown.
Because the human spine is vertical, its segments squash down at the base due to gravity. This compresses the intervertebral discs forcing them to lose water. The discs will start to dry out if they are squashed together more than they are sucked apart. As the discs lose fluid the intervertebral disc space will diminish which can be seen as a loss of disc height on plain film xray.
Unfortunately the trouble doesn’t stop there. Flat discs go on to cause trouble in the facet joints as the upper facet will ride down the slope of the lower facet resulting in facet joint jamming and onward leading to facet joint degeneration.
The good news - The Spynamics Sacro-aligner can help most cases of back pain
If we acknowledge that our discs lose fluid under gravity (we lose about 10% of our disc fluid in the low back during the first two hours of sitting), then it makes sound therapeutic sense to aim to recover and encourage the inward movement of fluid into our discs, to enhance fluid exchange and promote greater disc nutrition.
Use the Spynamics Sacroaligner at the end of the day when we are most compressed to give our discs a much needed drink and promote the rehydration and repair of the discs, our vital shock absorbers.
The thing to remember when using the Spynamics sacroaligner as your spinal decompression tool is :
· Position the spynamics aligner under your sacrum as you would normally BUT place a small book or block underneath it to create a greater lift to promote the centralised longitudinal decompression of the lower spinal segments. · Whilst lying with the spynamics aligner in place have your legs lying out straight on the floor, so that you are draped over the aligner. If comfortable hold this position for up to 60 seconds. · Follow this decompression by performing some spinal rocking by rocking your knees toward your armpits for 30 seconds. · Repeat the decompression and follow up rocking exercises for 3 –4 sets. The Knee rocking exercise must always follow the decompression work on the aligner.
